Frequently Asked Questions
Strawberry skin, also called strawberry legs or Keratosis Pilaris, is caused by keratin buildup that clogs hair follicles, creating rough bumps and a dotted appearance. Velvet Spray Squalane is formulated specifically for this: it contains plant-derived salicylic acid from Wintergreen Leaf Extract, a BHA that dissolves the dead skin cell buildup inside follicles daily, without scrubbing. Olive-derived squalane simultaneously hydrates and supports barrier repair. Apply daily in the shower to affected areas, arms, thighs, buttocks. Visible improvement in texture is typically noticeable within four to six weeks of consistent use.
Keratosis Pilaris, commonly called KP, chicken skin, or strawberry skin, is a harmless but common condition where excess keratin clogs hair follicles, creating rough, bumpy skin on the upper arms, thighs, and buttocks. There is no permanent cure, but consistent daily exfoliation and hydration significantly reduce the bumps. Velvet Spray Squalane was formulated for exactly this: its plant-derived salicylic acid (BHA) gently dissolves the follicle plugs each day, and olive-derived squalane prevents the skin barrier dryness that worsens KP. Daily use in the shower over four to eight weeks delivers the best results.
Squalane in Velvet Spray Squalane is derived from olives (listed as Phytosqualane on the ingredient label). It is a stabilised plant-based version of squalene, an oil your skin naturally produces to stay hydrated. Because it is structurally identical to your skin's own moisturising factor, it absorbs instantly without greasiness and delivers long-lasting hydration that integrates into your skin's lipid matrix rather than sitting on top. It does not come from sharks, the squalane in this product is 100% plant-derived from olives. For dry, KP-prone skin, it provides the sustained moisture that prevents follicle dryness and keratin buildup.
No. The salicylic acid in Velvet Spray Squalane is plant-derived from Wintergreen Leaf Extract (Gaultheria Procumbens), a naturally occurring BHA, not a lab-synthesised acid. It is oil-soluble and present in a nourishing oil base, which significantly reduces the irritation risk compared to water-based salicylic acid toners or serums. It delivers gentle daily exfoliation, enough to clear follicle buildup that causes KP, without causing dryness or peeling. It is dermatologist tested and safe for daily use on sensitive skin, including on the inner arms and thighs where skin is thinner.
Most people notice softer skin texture within two to three weeks of daily use. Visible reduction in the bumps and strawberry-skin appearance typically becomes noticeable at the four to six week mark with consistent application every day in the shower. KP is a chronic condition; the results are maintained by continued daily use, not achieved permanently. For faster improvement, pair with Rice & Shine Body Exfoliator used once or twice a week to supplement the daily chemical exfoliation that Velvet Spray Squalane delivers.
Apply it everywhere KP and strawberry skin appear. KP most commonly affects the upper arms, outer thighs, buttocks, and sometimes the calves and upper back. Velvet Spray Squalane is designed for full-body application; spray onto wet skin in the shower after rinsing off body wash, use broad upward strokes on arms and legs, and massage in a circular motion on the torso and thighs. One 250ml bottle provides approximately 60 to 80 daily full-body applications. For severe KP on the legs (often called strawberry legs), apply and skip the light end-rinse to maximise salicylic acid contact time.
No. Velvet Spray Squalane is based on a blend of plant oils — Sunflower Seed Oil, olive-derived squalane, Sesame Oil, Soybean Oil, Castor Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, and Canola Oil; all of which remain liquid at low temperatures. It is a true year-round formula that works identically in winter and summer, without any change in texture or application method. This makes it well-suited for colder months when KP typically worsens due to lower humidity and reduced skin hydration, exactly when consistent daily use matters most.
